We achieved the prestigious PassivHaus certification: redefining Energy Efficiency.

We are proud to announce that our innovative prototype of a habitable module has officially been awarded the PassivHaus certification by the prestigious Passivhaus Institut in Germany. This recognition validates the success of the consortium—formed by the University Centre of Defence in Zaragoza (CUD), the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, and the companies Arpa and B+HAUS—in creating a pioneering solution for sustainable living.

The PassivHaus certification is not just a mark of quality; it confirms that we have designed and built a living space capable of drastically reducing energy consumption, making a decisive contribution to the European Roadmap for a low-carbon economy by 2050. Our prototype has demonstrated outstanding performance, with key metrics verified by ebök GmbH, the certifying body:

  • Annual heating demand: 13 kWh/m²a
  • Annual cooling demand: 14 kWh/m²a
  • Total renewable primary energy demand: 71 kWh/m²a
  • Total annual renewable primary energy generation: 89 kWh/m²a
(This figure, certified at the request of CUD, demonstrates the module’s self-sufficiency capacity.)
  • Airtightness (n50): 1 1/h (measured at a pressure difference of 50 Pa, a key indicator of efficiency)

These impressive results reaffirm the proven viability of this prototype to create mobile, energy-autonomous living modules with significantly reduced environmental impact. The LIFE ZERO ENERGYMOD project is designed to deliver a habitable space that is easy to install and transport, integrating renewable energy sources and hydrogen storage, enabling autonomous operation in remote or off-grid locations.

This model offers a tailored logistical solution, ideal for:

  • European armed forces bases
  • Civil organizations in peacekeeping, development, and international cooperation missions
  • NGOs
  • Any public or private entity or ministry operating in remote areas

The project, developed by four partners and funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, proudly celebrates this milestone as a step closer to a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
